Saints Fall to Rochester at Home, 59-52

Day and Brady Score in Double Figures

The AQ women's basketball team lost a close battle against Rochester, 59-52, in the Sturrus Center on Saturday (Feb. 1). The Saints split the season series with the Warriors with a 64-52 win on December 14th.
 
Aquinas is now 14-10 on the season and 10-5 in WHAC play. Rochester with the win improves to 8-16 on the year and 6-8 in the WHAC.
 
The Saints started out well scoring 12 of the first 14 points en route to an 18-10 advantage after the first quarter. However, in the second quarter the Warriors outscored AQ 16-3 and led 26-21 at halftime.
 
In the second half, Rochester built a ten point lead at 40-30 before the Saints went on a 11-3 run at the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter to cut the deficit to two at 43-41. The Warriors would 11 of the next 13 points to take an 11-point lead and would hold on for win.
 
Daz'Sha Day was the leading scorer for the Saints with 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting. She made two three-pointers and dished out two assists along with two steals. Marissa Brady also scored in double figures with 14 points on 6-of-8 shots. She grabbed nine rebounds (five defensive, four offensive). Brady also led AQ with two blocks.
 
Camaryia Williams was the team leader in rebounds with 11 (seven offensive, four defensive). She had five steals and two assists. Jaylynn Williams scored eight points and had four rebounds (two offensive, two defensive) and four assists.
 
JaKarri Alven had five points while Jordyn Wigg and Keeley Hinton scored three. Alven and Wigg had three rebounds.
 
AQ shot 21-of-60 (35 percent) from the field while Rochester went 20-of-43 (46.5 percent) from the field. Rochester also had the advantage in three-point percentage (40 percent to 19 percent) and free throw percentage (65.2 percent to 42.9 percent). The Saints led in offensive rebounds (16-7), overall rebounds (35-34), points in the paint (32-28), points off turnovers (21-17) and bench points (11-2).
 
The Saints look to rebound on Wednesday (Feb. 5) when the team hosts Siena Heights in the Sturrus Center at 5:30 PM.
