Aquinas Races Past UNOH in Wednesday WHAC Action

Isabel Reemsnyder scores 20 off the bench for the second time this season in the 54-45 Saints win

The Aquinas women's basketball team led from wire to wire over UNOH to pick up the WHAC road victory on Wednesday evening (Dec. 1) in Lima, Ohio. The Saints raced out to an 11-2 lead three and a half minutes into the game and never looked back as AQ picked up the 54-45 win in the Racer Gymnasium.

Aquinas improves its overall record to 8-4 with a 4-2 WHAC conference record, which is good for fourth in the standings. UNOH sees its record drop to 2-6 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.

The Saints came out hot, hitting four of their first six shots and taking an 11-2 lead at the 6:29 mark. After the Racers cut the lead down to five, Isabel Reemsnyder started her big day by hitting a three to take an eight point advantage into the second quarter. That one shot propelled Reemsnyder into having a perfect second quarter by going 4-4 from the floor and 3-3 from behind the arc. She scored 11 of the Saints' 15 points in the quarter as the lead grew to 11 by halftime.

The third quarter was the one 10-minute session where the Racers outscored the Saints. UNOH scored the first three buckets in the period and then AQ scored the next three at the 5:19 mark. Two more baskets by the Racers cut the lead down to nine heading into the final quarter. UNOH continued to shrink the lead down to five with 6:15 remaining, but that is as close as they got as AQ won by a nine point advantage.

Aquinas shot 19-50 from the floor for a 38.0% shooting percentage, including 9-20 from behind the arc and 7-11 from the free throw line. The Saints held the Racers to a 36.7% field goal percentage after going 18-49 from the field, while not allowing a three point bucket and UNOH going 9-13 from the charity stripe.

Reemsnyder was the only Saint in double figures after scoring 20 points in 25 minutes off the bench. She shot 8-11 from the field and 4-5 from three, while also collecting an assist, a rebound, and a steal. Daz'Sha Day finished with eight points by making a couple layups and going 4-4 from the free throw line. Mauriya Barnes was the third leading scorer in only 12 minutes of action by scoring seven points.

Eliza Brown was the leading rebounder with six and leading distributor with three assists to go along with her six points. Brighton Miller also had six points, while Marissa Brady battled with foul trouble all night and finished with four points, five rebounds, and a block in 28 minutes.

Aquinas led UNOH in rebounds (35-33), assists (10-6), and blocks (3-1), while the Racers held an 8-7 advantage in steals. The Saints forced 22 UNOH turnovers and gave the ball up 19 times themselves. AQ outscored the UNOH bench by a 30-16 margin as the Racers had more points off turnovers (11-9), second chance points (4-3), and points in the paint (32-12).

The Saints will travel out to Holland, Michigan to face Hope in a non-conference match-up on Saturday (Dec. 4), with tip-off scheduled for 3:00 PM.
