The Aquinas women's basketball team faced Rochester in a big WHAC showdown on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 21). The visiting Saints were unable to take down the Warriors, who stand first in the league and the 60-47 win advances Rochester to a 12-1 overall record and remain unbeaten in the WHAC, 11-0.
AQ only trailed the Warriors by a bucket (24-22) heading into the locker room at halftime. The Saints were unable to contain their turnovers as AQ totaled 32 as a team. Rochester was able to convert and score 30 points off those turnovers. The loss moves Aquinas to 5-7 overall and 5-7 in the WHAC.
The Saints shot 36.8% from the floor this afternoon and went 17-22 from the foul line. Aquinas only had a pair of three-pointers in the contest. AQ held Rochester to a 31.9% shooting percentage as the Warriors went 22-68. The Warriors totaled 24 points from downtown shooting 8-33 from distance.
Marissa Brady led the Saints with her 11th double-double in 12 games as she posted 19 points and 13 rebounds. Brady also added five blocks and three steals. Brighton Miller totaled nine points for the Saints and had a pair of assists.
Destini Lewis shot 4-5 from the floor, finishing with eight points, three rebounds, and two assists. Kailee Ford knocked down three free throws and tallied three rebounds. Brionne Crews posted five rebounds for AQ.
Aquinas led Rochester in rebounds (34-31) and blocks (7-4). AQ finished with 32 turnovers while the Warriors only tallied 14. Rochester took the advantage in assists (14-10) and steals (14-5).
The Saints are back in action Tuesday as AQ hosts Madonna in another WHAC showdown for the last regular season game. Tip-off against the Crusaders is set for 6:00 PM inside the Sturrus Center.
