The Aquinas men's volleyball team notched a season sweep of crosstown rival Cornerstone on Tuesday night (Mar. 16) at CU's Mol Arena, topping the Golden Eagles in four sets. AQ took a 2-0 lead in the match and finished off the victory with a tight 26-24 fourth set score.

Tuesday's final line score saw Aquinas top Cornerstone, 25-14, 25-17, 19-25, and 26-24. It was the second win of the season for the Saints over the Golden Eagles. AQ moves to 4-9 overall and 3-6 in conference play, while Cornerstone drops to 2-17 on the year and 0-9 in WHAC action.

The Saints held a 51-30 advantage in kills, hitting .188 to just an .038 attack mark for Cornerstone. AQ led in digs (45-32), assists (47-29), and aces (5-4), while the Golden Eagles held an 8-6 blocking edge.

Julian Armendano provided a double-double of 20 kills and 12 digs, both of which were match-highs.
Robert Valerio notched 11 kills and hit .400, adding five digs and three block assists.
Daniel Littleton put down eight kills in 14 attacks for a .357 attack mark.

Matthew Richmond handed out 43 assists and
Sean Kelley picked up 11 digs.
Gavin Jonker provided seven digs, five kills, and a pair of aces.
Matthew Glass recorded four kills in six attempts and a pair of block assists.Â

AQ used a 10-1 run – including eight straight points – to take control of the first set and pull away for the 25-14 win. Trailing 16-15 in set two, the Saints scored six straight points and 10 of the last 11 to pull away with the 25-17 victory.Â

Cornerstone made things interesting by winning the third stanza 25-19 to force the fourth set. Aquinas was on top 24-22 and serving for the victory, but the Golden Eagles notched consecutive points to tie the set at 24-all. Valerio put down a kill and Cornerstone committed an attack error to end the match, 26-24.
