AQ Men Drop WHAC Semifinal Match at Top Seed #20 UNOH

The Aquinas men's tennis team fell in the WHAC semifinals in Lima, Ohio on Wednesday afternoon (Apr. 28), dropping a 4-0 decision to top-seeded UNOH. Aquinas was the fourth seed in the conference tournament, but could not overcome the #20 Racers, who advance to the WHAC Championship this weekend.

AQ's season ends with a 4-5 overall record, while UNOH moves to 20-4 on the year. The Racers are the only team to defeat the Saints since Mar. 19, handing Aquinas two of its five losses this season.

UNOH captured the doubles point by winning at #1 and #3 doubles. The #1 doubles match was a great matchup, with Max Goldbeck-Lowe and Joel Hancox falling by a 7-5 score to Sergio Conde and Marcos Salazar. At #3 doubles, Mariano Arroyo and Brandon McEachern lost to Malik Omarkhanov and David Ayguavives by a 6-2 score. With UNOH winning those two matchups, the #2 doubles match went unfinished.

Conde topped Goldbeck-Lowe at #1 singles, 6-2 and 6-1. Alfredo Barcelo of UNOH defeated Arroyo in the #5 singles matchup by a 6-0 and 6-4 result. Ayguavives earned a 6-0, 6-0 win over McEachern at #6 singles. Those three singles wins clinched the required four points for UNOH to clinch the match victory, as the #2, #3, and #4 singles competitions were also unfinished.
