The Aquinas women's basketball team was beaten by #17 Indiana Tech on Wednesday evening (Jan. 26) in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The Warriors proved to be too much for the Saints as the top-25 team won in convincing fashion by a score of 63-38.
AQ's overall record now stands at 12-11 on the season with a 7-6 conference record, maintaining the fifth place spot in the WHAC. IIT improves its record of 22-2 on the year and 14-1 within the conference.
Aquinas was within two points of Indiana Tech with the score reading 7-5 just under three minutes into the game, but then the Warriors outscored the Saints 14-5 in the remaining time of the first quarter.
Marissa Brady was a bright spot for the first 10 minutes, going a perfect 3-3 from the field for six points and grabbing five rebounds. The AQ defense came to play in the second quarter by holding IIT to eight total points and cutting the deficit to seven before halftime.
The second half was all about the Warriors as they held a 34-17 advantage for the final 20 minutes of play. The Saints were able to climb within nine early in the third period, but were soon down by as much as 28 in the fourth. Indiana Tech ended up winning its sixth straight game by 25 points.
Aquinas finished with a 29.4% field goal percentage after making 15-51 shots, including 3-17 from behind the arc and 5-12 from the free throw line. Indiana Tech went 23-48 from the floor for a 47.9% shooting percentage, while going 5-12 from downtown and 12-15 from the charity stripe.
Brady was the lone Saint to score in double figures, finishing with 12 points and nine rebounds.

Indiana Tech held advantages in the rebounding (38-27) and assists (11-5) departments, while Aquinas had more blocks (5-4) and steals (7-2). Both teams had 14 turnovers a piece.
Aquinas will return home to Sturrus Center for a three-game stretch beginning with UM-Dearborn on Saturday (Jan. 29), with tip-off scheduled for 1:00 PM.
