Aquinas Men's Swim and Dive Bests Alma 110-95 in Tight Contest

Results

Alma, Mich. - The #11 ranked Aquinas men's swim and dive teams concluded their loaded October with an away meet against Alma College on October 29. After 26 events, AQ bested Alma 110-95 in a meet that was determined by multiple close finishes.
 
The men's 400 Yard Medley Relay set the tone for the day with both AQ teams besting Alma's A squad. AQ's A squad of Ian Clapp, Luke Martin, Ethan Tennant, and Matthew Dumbsky touched first at 3:45 earning them 11 points. Then Collin Neely, Cesar Robles, Baryn Robar, and Tony Parlato bested Alma by .52 seconds to place second.
 
Dumbsky and Martin would reunite at the end of the meet with Conrad Eichbauer and Braden Augustine in the 400 Yard Freestyle. The quartet swam their way to a 3:21.44 besting Alma by .05 to clinch the win for the Saints. The time also earned them the new school record.
 
Then getting into individual highlights, Eichbauer finished with a season best in the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 1:51.87. He out touched an Alma swimmer to take first in the event and give the Saints 9 points. He would continue to narrowly beat out Alma athletes, when he did so in the 500 freestyle. His time of 5:09.84 edged out third place by a tenth of a second earning the Saints 4 more points.
 
Winning the 400 Yard IM was Ethan Tennant with a time of 4:34. He was joined in the event by Sebastian Shoaf, who finished fourth. The Saints left the event with 11 points.
 
Dumbsky, Augustine, and Kaden Allen would go 2-3-5 in the 50 Yard Freestyle to earn eight more points for AQ. Dumbsky finished a tenth of a second behind the winner of the race with a time of 22.16.
 
Senior, Cesar Robles continued to lead by example in the 100 breast. He won the event with a time of 1:01. He was joined by Tony Parlato and Shoaf who earned 2 and 1 points respectively.
 
Finally, the Saints continued to out touch Alma when Luke Martin did so in the 100 Yard Butterfly. His time of 56.47 bested the competition by less than half a second in route to him earning the victory.
 
The Saints will next compete at the Don Kimble Invite from Nov. 18-20. The invite will be hosted at the East Kentwood High School Natatorium and will be the Saints last competition of the calendar year.
