The Aquinas dance team competed this past Thursday (Feb. 10) and Friday (Feb. 11) down in New Orleans, Louisiana and performed the best out of any team there. The Saints first took on the Montreat Cavaliers in a one-on-one dual the first day and then turned around to compete in the Battle in the Big Easy the next day. Both events were hosted by XU-Louisiana in its convention center.
AQ went first in the dual versus MC and scored an 83.80, which is the second highest score of this season. The Cavaliers went next and ended with a score of 63.36, giving the Saints the win. Of the six dance duals that happened on Thursday, the Saints came out with the highest score with the next highest being 4.27 points behind.
The next day in the Battle in the Big Easy, AQ competed against eight other teams including Ave Maria, Dillard, Keiser, Loyola (N.O.), Montreat, Our Lady of the Lake, Talladega, and Vanguard. The Saints took home a very close win by scoring a 79.70. This is the second straight competition that AQ has won.
Right after Aquinas in second place was Loyola (N.O.) who scored a 79.20, which was just 0.50 behind the Saints. Montreat had a better day than the day before in the dual against AQ by taking third and scoring a 73.07. Vanguard was the only other team to finish with a score over 70 by finishing in fourth with a 70.63 score. Ave Maria (66.80), Our Lady of the Lake (62.23), Dillard (48.56), Talladega (44.76), and Keiser (38.60) completed the rest of the standings.
Aquinas next competes at the WHAC Championships on Friday (Feb. 18) with Lawrence Tech hosting in Southfield, Michigan and the competition starting at 6:00 PM.
