The Aquinas men's tennis team took down Lawrence Tech, who was receiving votes in the top-25 poll, on Saturday (Mar. 26) in Southfield, Michigan in upset fashion. The Saints took the 5-2 victory over the Blue Devils by winning five of the six singles matches. AQ climbs back to .500 at 8-8 (3-1 WHAC) on the season as LTU saw its record drop to 12-13 (3-3 WHAC) this year.
The Blue Devils won the doubles point after winning both the #2 and #3 matches over the Saints.
Simon Uhlen and
Nicholas Klak were defeated in the #2 doubles 6-3, while
Brandon McEachern and
Josep Coll Llopis were taken down in the #3 match 6-3.
Joel Hancox and
Tom Gangov won their first doubles match together in the #1 match by a score of 6-2.
After Hancox was taken down in the #1 singles match 0-6, 1-6, the Saints went on to win the remaining five matches to take the victory. Two of the matches went into three sets as
Max Goldbeck-Lowe improved to 8-8 on the season after prevailing in the #3 match 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 and Uhlen took the #4 singles 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 to move to 8-6 on the year.
Gangov moved to 8-2 this season in the 7-5, 6-3 win in the #2 match. Coll Llopis gained his fifth win on the year after winning the #5 singles 6-4, 6-3. Klak rounded out the wins in the #6 match to move to 6-5 on the season with the 6-3, 6-3 win.
Aquinas will face another team receiving votes in the top-25 poll in Indiana Tech next Saturday (Apr. 2) at the Grand Rapids Racquet & Fitness Center, beginning at 12:00 PM.
