AQ Men's Rugby Has Impressive Showing in First-Ever Competition

The Saints went 3-2 this weekend in the Fighting Irish 7s Tournament

The Saints men's rugby team traveled down to South Bend, Indiana to compete in their first ever competition this past Saturday (Mar. 26). AQ would finish the tournament with an overall record of 3-2 while finishing in third place in the Survivors Cup Bracket.

Aquinas started off the day in the Cup Bracket at the Fighting Irish Sevens Invitational. Their first game was against Thomas More, who managed to beat AQ by a score of 15-0. From there, the Saints moved into the Survivor Bracket with a matchup against Purdue University.

The Saints would get a convincing 19-7 win against Purdue to continue play in the Survivors Cup. The Saints would continue to heat up, winning 26-12 in the next round of the Survivors Cup against Bowling Green State University. AQ would get matched up against local D1 school, Western Michigan in the semifinals of the Survivor Cup. Aquinas would put up a good fight, scoring 26 points yet again. However, the Broncos would do just a little bit better, winning 36-26 over Aquinas.

AQ would be placed into the third-place game against Christendom and the Saints would have their best performance yet. The Saints would dismantle Christendom 34-5 to finish in third place in the Survivors Cup.

Aquinas will return to action next month at the Ohio State Sevens Invitational. The invitational is set to begin on April 23rd in Columbus, Ohio.
