The Aquinas men's tennis team competed in the 2022 WHAC Tournament as the #3 seed on Friday (Apr. 29) at the Gainey Tennis Courts. In the #3/#6 quarterfinal matchup, the Saints swept Lourdes by a score of 4-0. Aquinas then advanced to take on the #2 seed in Indiana Tech in the semifinals and fell 0-4. AQ ended its season with a 12-11 record that included a 4-2 WHAC record.

The Saints swept the doubles matches to gain the point before heading into the singles matches.
Max Goldbeck-Lowe and
Joel Hancox took care of business in the #1 match, 6-0. Both the #2 and #3 matches ended in 6-1 victories for AQ with
Tom Gangov and
Josep Coll Llopis winning the #2 match and
Simon Uhlen and
Nicholas Klak won the #3 match.
Aquinas only needed three singles match wins to the overall win and that is exactly what they got. Gangov took the #1 singles match 6-2, 6-0, Coll Llopis won the #2 match 6-2, 6-0, and
John Elizalde was victorious in the #6 singles match 6-1, 6-1.
Brandon McEachern,
Mariano Arroyo, and
Jackson VanBergen also competed, but their matches went unfinished when the Saints captured the fourth point.
Semifinals: Indiana Tech 4, Aquinas 1
Unfortunately the run came to an end in the semifinals as the Warriors cruised to a victory over the Saints. The one point AQ gained was in the doubles matches, winning two out of the three. Hancox and Goldbeck-Lowe were victorious in the #1 match 6-3 as Gangov and Coll Llopis also won the #2 doubles 6-4. Uhlen and Klak were taken down in the #3 match 2-6.
IT won four of the six singles matches to eventally advance to the WHAC Championship. Gangov put up a good fight in the #2 singles, but could not keep Indiana Tech from winning the last two sets in the 6-2, 4-6, 2-6 three set loss. Goldbeck-Lowe was upended in the #3 match 4-6, 2-6, Uhlen went down in the #5 singles 3-6, 3-6, and Klak was defeated in the #6 match 1-6, 3-6. Hancox's and Coll Llopis' matches were unfinished.
In the WHAC postseason awards, the Saints had an All-WHAC Singles Team selectin in
Tom Gangov. After coming in at semester, Gangov finished 2022 with an overall 12-4 record by mainly playing in the #2 singles spot. Against WHAC teams, he had a 4-1 record with his only regular season loss coming against then-#8 UHOH. Gangov was also 9-4 in doubles matches this season.
Aquinas finished with five men's tennis student-athletes on the WHAC All-Academic Team, which are juniors or above in academic standing with a cumulative 3.25 grade point average and have been at AQ for at least one full year. Aquinas' All-Academic honorees are:

Joel Hancox,
Nicholas Klak, and
Brandon McEachern.
Klak was also AQ's representative on the Champions of Character Team, as the Saints player that best represents the five core character values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
Jerry Hendrick was selected as the WHAC Champions of Character Coach, which is voted on by the other coaches within the conference.
