The Aquinas women's tennis team took on NCAA DII opponent Davenport for the second time this season on Saturday (Apr. 9) at the MVP Sportsplex. The Saints fell to the Panthers for the second time this year by a 1-6 score. AQ finished the regular season with a 9-13 record.
DU won all three doubles matches to gain the doubles point.
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder fell for only the fifth time this season in #1 doubles by a 5-7 score with their record finishing up at 14-5. In the #2 match,
Carlota Arzabe and
Mimi Pacheco went down 2-6, while
Vanessa Heylmun and
Jenna Hausman dropped the #3 doubles match 0-6.
The lone win for the Saints came in the #3 singles match as Volder was able to improve to 14-3 on the year with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. Gomez forced the #1 match to go to three sets after dropping the first set, but went down 4-6, 6-4, 2-6.Â
The other four singles matches were straight sets wins for Davenport as Arzabe lost the #2 singles 0-6, 4-6, Pacheco fell in the #4 match 1-6, 1-6, Heylmun went down 1-6, 1-6 in the #5 singles, and Hausman lost the #6 match 1-6, 1-6.
Aquinas will now wait until the WHAC Championships on Apr. 29-30 at Cornerstone to compete again.
