Indianapolis, Ind. — On Saturday (Oct. 14) the Aquinas men's rugby team made its way to Indianapolis, Ind., to compete against the Wheeling Cardinals on a neutral site at Marian for the quarterfinals of the Big River Rugby Conference (BRRC) Tournament.
The Saints (1-4 overall) had a fiery performance in the first half. But Wheeling's experience prevailed to take them over the Saints. AQ would fall short in the second half, losing 29-11.
The boys in maroon came to play, and came out swinging in the first half, "It was the type of performance we'd been waiting for," head coach
Lance Hohaia commented.
The first half would be a back and fourth, coming to a close at 12-11 in Wheeling's favor.
AQ had high hopes in the second, looking to battle it out for a quarterfinals victory. But, the Cardinals built momentum and would strike for three unanswered tries.
The end result would be a conference tournament loss for the Saints, 29-11.
Aquinas is back in action on October 28, where they will take on The University of Rio Grande. The time and location are still to be determined, stay tuned for those details.
