Orlando, Fla. — The Aquinas men's tennis team picked up its first 9-0 win on Friday (Mar. 17) to conclude its 2023 Spring Break Trip in Orlando, Fla.
The Saints (4-5 overall) only dropped one set in doubles action. The top AQ pairing of
Tom Gangov and
Josep Coll Llopis winning 8-1 over James Harrington and Patrick O'Mara. Aquinas won 8-0 in the other two matchups.
No. 2
Nicholas Klak and
Max Goldbeck-Lowe improved to 4-5 overall as double partners this season, while No. 3
Mariano Arroyo and
Jackson VanBergen picked up their first doubles win.
Singles play was much of the same, as the Saints won all six matchups to deal NCAA Division III Scranton (1-7 overall) another loss in rather convincing fashion.
The closest match of the day was between the two No. 1's. After splitting the first two games, Gangov won a 10-8 tiebreaker to knock off Harrington. The remaining five matches were settled in straight sets:

No. 4 Arroyo def. Jason Budrys, 6-1, 6-2.

No. 6 VanBergen def. John Sinclair, 6-1, 6-2.
After starting the spring season 1-4, the Saints won three out of their four matches in Florida to get back on track. AQ returns to action on Friday (Mar. 24) at home inside the Grand Rapids Racquet and Fitness Center against Lawrence Tech. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
