Melbourne, FL - Due to tomorrow's competitions being cancelled, the women's softball team has finished their time in Florida today with two victories over Hannibal-LaGrange and Clarke. The Saints finished their time in Florida with an overall record of 11-2.
Game 1: Aquinas 13, Hannibal-LaGrange 3 (5 Innings)
The Saints would get to work immediately when
Haley Myers tripled to left field allowing the previously walked
Courtney Hardin to score. AQ's all-time leading hitter,
Izzy Dawson would then single to left field to allow Myers to score. Next after
Kaelyn Stafford doubled, Dawson scored on a sacrifice fly. Then,
Carson Hendrickson and Stafford would then be on second and third when
Halee Holman flied out to left field, allowing Stafford to score. Hendrickson would then score on a wild pitch to give the Saints five runs in the inning. Hannibal La Grange would score once in the bottom of the inning.
In the second,
Sydney VanDerHaegen would be walked, then advance to second on a single from Hardin. On a fly out, VanDerHaegen would advance to third, and would reach home when
Izzy Dawson reach first on an error.
Three more runs for AQ would come in the third when Hendricks scored on a double by Holman. Then, Holman and VanDerHaegen would score off a Myers' double.
The four runs would come for the Saints in the top of the fifth.
Alexa Kownacki would single to left field to bring in
Taylor Charon and VanDerHaegen. Later, two singles from
Kim Sosnowski and
Jaden Delchambre would bring in Kownacki and
Jaden Benschoter as the Saints lead 13-1. Hannibal-Lagrange would be able to score two runs in the bottom of the firth, but the Saint's would mercy rule their opponents.
Nina Bennett recorded the W today pitching three innings allowing two hits and two runs to score.
Leah Ash would finish the final two innings for AQ with three strikeouts and only one hit and one run scored.
Game 2: Aquinas 1, Clarke 0
The second game of the day was a defensive game with only six hits total and 1 run scored. Thankfully for Aquinas, the one run scored came from
Darrien Roberts in the fourth inning when she homered to left. This was all the Saints needed to get the gritty win.
Kayla Fessenden pitched all seven innings for the Saints and was awarded the W.
These two games concluded AQ's Florida Trip. They return to action on Wednesdy, March 22. They will host Calumet College of St. Joseph at 3:00 PM.
