Southfield, Mich. – The Saints battled the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils tonight (Feb. 20) in a conference matchup. LTU entered the game after beating nationally-ranked Indiana Tech and Lourdes and continued that hot streak against Aquinas. Lawrence Tech downed the Saints in three sets to continue its win streak.
LTU improved to 7-1 this season with its only loss coming to Cornerstone. The Blue Devils have now won six matches in a row. AQ fell to 2-7 after another match against a tough team.
Lawrence Tech 3, Aquinas 0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-16)
Noah Smith-Slosar recorded two kills to start the match, but the Blue Devils were out ahead early. The Saints had no answer for LTU's momentum, resulting in a quick first-set win for the home side.
A Smith-Slosar kill had AQ ahead early in the second set as, paired with a few LTU errors, Aquinas led 5-4. However, a 10-point run from the Blue Devils would change the landscape of the set as LTU went on to win the second set 25-13.
The young Aquinas side couldn't slow down the hot Lawrence Tech side as AQ trailed early and could not find a foothold. The Blue Devils went on to win the set 25-16 and the match 3-0.
By the Numbers
LTU swept the box score, leading in kills, hitting percentage, aces, blocks, assists, and digs.
