Aquinas Earns Another Win With 7-1 Showing Over Fitchburg State

AQ improves win streak to three.

Melbourne, Fla. – The Saints softball squad is cooking up another win streak after winning their third straight today (Mar. 13). Aquinas took the lead in the third inning against the Falcons and never looked back, taking the game 7-1 at the final out. After this result, AQ has cruised to a 13-2 record so far this season.

The Falcons nearly broke open the scoring in the first, but a Grace Maguire strikeout with two outs prevented any damage. Instead, it was the Saints that broke the deadlock in the third inning. McKenna Hinkle doubled to left field and Haley Myers hit a single to put runners on the corners. With two outs, Katie Carlson crushed a triple into right field to clear the bases and put AQ on the board.

FSU was the next to score, tallying one run in the bottom of the fourth. However, AQ immediately responded with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth after a two-RBI single from Jessica Dobias.

The remainder of the Aquinas offense occurred in the final inning. Kenzie Jordan started the inning off with a leadoff single but was then thrown out at second on a fielder's choice the next at-bat. Emma Houseman singled herself and then stole second, helping Leah Vaughan reach home.

A Jaden Delchambre single and an error on the ensuing at-bat put seven runs on the scoreboard for Aquinas and put a bow on the win.

Maguire allowed just the one run on four hits with five strikeouts over four innings pitched to improve to 4-1. Sydney Bosgraaf pitched extremely well in relief, allowing just one hit over three innings.

By the Numbers

Hinkle, Kim Sosnowski, and Dobias led the team with two hits apiece. Carlson (2), Dobias (2), and Delchambre (1) accounted for the five RBIs.
