Men's Rugby Finds Competition at Big Rivers Tournament

AQ goes 1-2 after a day of competition

Indianapolis, Ind. — The Aquinas College men's rugby team took part of the Big Rivers Conference 7's Tournament on Sunday (Apr. 14). The Saints outscored their opponents 41-22 overall. But the team finished the day at 1-2 after their day of competition.

The Saints started their day off with a dominant performance against Thomas More. AQ handled the opposing Saints of Thomas More with a shutout victory of 26-0.

Next the team faced off with Iowa Central. After a complete 14 minutes on the pitch, the teams were merely separated by two points. Aquinas found themselves on the short side of those points. AQ took their first loss 12-10.

Now 1-1 on the day, Aquinas entered their final game of competition against Principia. The Saints were once again on the short end of a single score game. Principia found the try one more time than AQ, taking the win 10-5. 

The day of contest came to a close as the Saints walk away with a day standing of 1-2. 

Here is what Head Coach Lance Hohaia had to say about the teams performance on the day, "We played with a lot of determination, but it wasn't quite enough. Nonetheless, we are proud of the effort. Back to work tomorrow".

The team now waits to hear about their post season plans to see if they will receive an open bid to the National Collegiate Rugby 7s Championships held in Maryland.
