Grand Rapids, Mich. — The Saints were in the zone and striking gold this weekend at the lanes. Competing in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) #2 Great Lakes Open at Imperial Lanes in Clinton Township, both Aquinas bowling programs delivered milestone performances. The men's team made history by capturing just the second WHAC tournament title in school history, while the women's team rolled to an impressive fourth-place finish, highlighted by senior Brooke Binder's individual championship.

Women's Results

The Aquinas women's bowling team continued its steady climb toward the top of the WHAC standings, finishing fourth overall with a team total of 5,396 pins. The day belonged to senior Brooke Binder, who claimed the individual tournament title with a 623 series (220–243–160). Her second game of 243 was one of the highest of the day, setting the tone for another outstanding team performance.

Freshman Tayler Mohney and junior Sophia Santo joined Binder in the top 25 individually. Mohney impressed with a 543 series (180–188–175), while Santo turned in a 519 series (143–218–158) — highlighted by a blistering 218 in Game 2 that vaulted her up the leaderboard.

Rounding out the varsity lineup were Kayla Van Linden, Chloe Fisk, Carly Pavka, and Ella Mattson, who each played key roles in the Baker rounds, where Aquinas found its rhythm. Consistent spare shooting and timely strikes helped the Saints maintain their hold on a top-four finish in a highly competitive field.

Coach's Comments (Women)

Following the tournament, Head Coach Harold Klukowski praised his team's progress:

"This team continues to grow and put up solid finishes. They finished 4th in a tough conference tournament. Brooke finished 1st in the tournament individually! Keep an eye out for these ladies as the season progresses."

Men's Results

History was made for the Aquinas men's bowling team, as the Saints captured the WHAC #2 tournament championship — their first under Coach Klukowski and just the second conference title in program history. The Saints compiled a 6,123 total pinfall, holding off the rest of the WHAC field through steady play and clutch Baker rounds.

The men's side featured multiple top individual performances, headlined by senior David Schaberg, who claimed individual medalist honors with a 669 series (277–202–190). Schaberg's electric opening game of 277 was the second-best score of the entire event (Nicholas Schaberg was top dog with a 289) and set the tone for Aquinas' historic day.

Junior Ian Carmichael joined him near the top of the leaderboard, finishing 8th overall with a 611 series (237–195–179), marking his best WHAC finish to date. Fellow varsity standout junior Anthony DeLuccia placed 10th with a 604 series (247–190–167), while senior Trey Richmond (392), junior Dylan Maurer (588) and sophomore Curtis Swezey (516) each provided key depth in the scoring rotation.

Also contributing to the championship run were sophmore Nicholas Schaberg, junior Joshua Boersma, and junior Bradyn Curtis, all of whom added valuable consistency during the team games and Baker rounds. The Saints' balance and experience carried them to a complete team performance that showcased their growth and resilience.

Coach's Comments (Men)

Head Coach Harold Klukowski was thrilled following the championship weekend:

"This was a special day! I couldn't be more proud of these men! We came away with the win — first in my four years here. This was the definition of a program win. We wouldn't have done this without all of my assistant coaches Bryan, Jason, and Madisen. A special thank you to Coach Oksana who has taught me and our team so much. The athletes that have joined me and bought in. This is the first win of many to come to Aquinas!"
