Box Score Lima, Ohio—Success requires attention to detail, and for the Aquinas Women's Basketball team, maintaining momentum means staying focused and not becoming complacent. The Saints embraced that mindset on Saturday, battling through challenges to secure a 74-65 road victory over UNOH, extending their winning streak to eight games.
Aquinas 74, UNOH 65
Aquinas held a 13-12 lead after the first quarter but had to overcome 16 turnovers, which UNOH converted into 22 points—a key factor that kept the Racers in the game. However, AQ controlled the glass, out-rebounding UNOH 48-41, which helped compensate for their miscues.
The Saints maintained a narrow 28-27 lead at halftime before asserting control in the second half. A dominant stretch in the fourth quarter saw AQ extend their lead to as much as 17 points, creating a comfortable cushion to close out the game.
With the win, Aquinas improves to 16-7 overall and 13-2 in the WHAC; they remain one game behind Indiana Tech for first place while pulling two games ahead of Lourdes, which sits in third.
An MVP Type Season
Leading the charge for Aquinas—both in this game and throughout the season—is junior guard Claire Gregwer, the Grandville High School alum. Gregwer once again showcased her all-around excellence, finishing with 15 points, 17 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 block, and 1 steal, significantly impacting both ends of the floor. Her consistency has put her firmly in the conversation for WHAC Player of the Year honors. Saturday's performance also marked her tenth consecutive double-double, further solidifying her status as one of the top players in the conference.
Coach's Thoughts
Head Coach Brian Morris acknowledged the difficulties of playing on the road and praised his team's resilience, "We got off to a slow start but found a way to play through some early offensive woes. Playing on the road in that environment is always a challenge, and our ladies once again found a way to recover and get the job done."
