Aquinas finishes second in pool play and closes the day with a decisive win in the third-place match while competing with an all-freshman roster

Richfield, Ohio – The Aquinas College women's rugby team turned in a strong performance at its first automatic qualifier of the season, finishing third overall and second in pool play while competing as an all-freshman squad against several experienced programs.

Aquinas 57, MSU 0

The Saints opened the tournament in dominant fashion, overwhelming Michigan State University with a commanding 57–0 victory. Aquinas controlled the pace from the opening whistle, stringing together multiple scoring runs while keeping MSU off the scoreboard.

Aquinas 12, Wheeling 31

In the second pool match, the Saints ran into a tough challenge against Wheeling University. Despite continued effort on both sides of the ball, Aquinas fell 31–1.

Aquinas 12, UNI 5

The Saints bounced back in the final pool contest, defeating University of Northern Iowa 12–5 to secure second place in pool play and advance to bracket competition.

Aquinas 0, Davenport 27

Aquinas faced Davenport University in the semifinal round of bracket play. The Panthers capitalized on their opportunities, handing the Saints a 27–0 defeat and sending Aquinas to the third-place match.

Aquinas 36, Michigan 5

The Saints responded with one of their most complete performances of the tournament, defeating University of Michigan 36–5 in the third-place game to secure a podium finish.

Several Saints contributed standout performances throughout the day. Jayana Williams provided a spark for the offense, returning to the lineup and tallying multiple tries and assists. Lilly Stough added key conversions and tries, helping Aquinas extend scoring runs, while Nadia Perez played a pivotal role in setting up the attack with multiple assists.

Coaches Comments
Head coach Dani Harris praised the group's effort and resilience throughout the tournament.

"Taking third place in our first automatic qualifier is something we're really proud of," Harris said. "This is an all-freshman team competing against very experienced programs, and they showed a lot of perseverance and heart throughout the tournament. We know there are areas we can improve, and we're going to keep working and building as we push toward nationals."
