Grand Rapids, Mich. — When a department starts stacking championships, rankings, and national-level performances all at once, the weekly honors tend to follow.
That was the case again for Aquinas, as the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tipped its cap to another massive Saints week, naming Lauren Wooer and Braeden Williams WHAC Athletes of the Week in a two-sport sweep that once again showcased the range of excellence happening across AQ athletics.
On the women's track side, Wooer owned the 800 meters, blazing to a personal-best 2:11.90 to capture the event title while also punching through the NAIA provisional qualifying standard. It was the kind of breakthrough performance that not only wins a meet, but signals something bigger as the Saints inch closer to championship season.
For men's lacrosse, Williams was nothing short of a problem for every defense he saw all week.
The Saints star attackman powered AQ to a 2-0 road swing, highlighted by a ranked showdown win at No. 7 Indiana Tech and a statement victory over UM-Dearborn.
Across the two wins, Williams stacked 11 goals and 5 assists for 16 points, continuing to build one of the most dangerous offensive résumés in the NAIA.
The week opened in Fort Wayne, where Williams poured in four goals and one assist to help the Saints grind out a dramatic 10-9 road win over No. 7 Indiana Tech, one of AQ's biggest victories of the spring.
Then came Dearborn.
With the Saints making sure there would be no trap-game stumble ahead of the No. 1 vs. No. 3 showdown with Madonna, Williams erupted for seven goals and four assists in AQ's 21-7 win, completely taking over the afternoon and putting an exclamation point on an unforgettable week.
The Saints Way.
Another reason why every day is a great day to be a Saint.
