Scott Curtis is penciled in to begin leading the men's and women's bowling programs beginning with the 2021-2022 season.
Curtis comes to Aquinas after spending the last season as a head coach for Cass City High School in Cass City, Michigan. He brings a total of 13 years of coaching experience to the Saints bowling program.
Prior to his one year stint with Cass City HS, Curtis spent ten seasons as the head coach of the Reese High School bowling team in Reese, Michigan. He led a program that had four all-state performers bowl for him and had a bowler win an individual conference championship. Individually, there were multiple bowlers that earned academic all-state honors as well as the team itself under the tenure of Curtis. Additionally, Curtis was named Division 4 Coach of the Year for the 2018 season and was a Michigan High School Interscholastic Bowling Coaches Association Executive Member.
"We are excited about Scott Curtis being a part of the Aquinas family," said Claudette Charney, Deputy Director of Athletics. "He is very excited to be our new men's and women's bowling coach and brings a lot of experience in the sport of bowling to Aquinas College."
Curtis also has experience being a program director for the Reese Bowling Club prior to being named the head coach of Reese HS. He has three separate 300 games to his credit as well as an 800 series.
"Getting this opportunity to take my knowledge of bowling and my drive to coach young adults in this sport to the next level is a dream come true," stated Curtis. "Going to a small school with an established program to push it to new heights; I look at it as a challenge and privilege. I see the program in five years as one that stays in the top 40 nationally, along with having full varsity and junior varsity squads for both men and women, and winning a WHAC Bowling Conference title for each team. I want to make this not only a school to attend for a great education, but also a top bowling program in the country."
A native of Middleville, Michigan, Curtis is a graduate of Northwood University, where he received a bachelor's degree in automotive aftermarket management. He also holds a USBC Bronze Coaching Certification and SafeSport Certification.
