Aquinas College

Ash Smith joins Aquinas Men's Volleyball from Woodward Academy in Atlanta, bringing five years of volleyball experience and an extensive background in athletics. Smith earned recognition as an NTDP All-Star Team candidate and Nighthawks National Team candidate before beginning his collegiate career.

Smith chose Aquinas because Grand Rapids reminded him of Atlanta and because of the immediate connection he felt with the team. He is excited to pursue his education while bringing energy and personality to the court and helping create an enjoyable environment for those around the program. With aspirations of a career in hematology, Smith credits his own motivation and the support of his peers as important pieces of achieving his goals.

Away from volleyball, Smith is a musician and former member of the band Shark Bait, plays guitar and enjoys punk rock and alternative music. One of seven children, he also enjoys drawing, sewing and making clothes, and considers himself a jack of all trades. His favorite movie is Shaolin Soccer.
