Coach Pohlman is in his 1st year of coaching at Aquinas College, but has been coaching baseball for 42 years. His primary roles at Aquinas will be coaching pitchers and recruiting. He graduated from Saginaw Douglas MacArthur High School, where he threw seven no-hitters on the diamond and also was a member of the basketball team. Coach Pohlman received a scholarship to Central Michigan University, where he threw a no-hitter against the University of South Carolina and helped CMU win its first Division 1 Regional Championship by throwing a three-hitter against the University of Iowa. He was drafted into the Milwaukee Brewers organization and played several years in the minor leagues before sustaining an arm injury.
Coach Pohlman coached as a volunteer assistant at CMU before receiving his first high school coaching job at Chesaning High School. There, Coach Pohlman coached football and basketball and was the head baseball coach for 13 years. He served as the schools' Athletic Director for two seasons as well. In his 13 seasons at Chesaning, Pohlman's teams won seven conference championships. Coach Pohlman moved on to Miami University in Oxford Ohio, where he was the Redhawks' assistant coach and pitching coach. In his four seasons at Miami, four Redhawk pitchers were drafted into professional baseball.
Cap moved to Fruitport, Michigan and coached both basketball and baseball at Fruitport High School. In four years with Pohlman at the helm, the Trojans won three conference championships. After his time at Fruitport, Pohlman was an assistant coach at Spring Lake High School before accepting the head coaching position at Muskegon Community College. In 17 seasons at MCC, Pohlman won over 500 games and went to 12 Regionals. Under his guidance, the Jayhawks also won their only two conference championships in school history.
Coach Pohlman is a member of the Michigan High School Coaches Hall of Fame, the Central Michigan University Hall of Fame as a member of the national runner-up baseball team of 1971, and was recently inducted into the Saginaw County Sports Hall of Fame. He is supported by his wife of 41 years, Deb, and has two children, Karli and Carey. He has three grandchildren, Karina, Jackson and Paxton.
