Men’s Hockey Stopped by Indiana Tech

Results

The men's hockey team traveled to Ft. Wayne this afternoon for a re-match with Indiana Tech after last night's overtime loss. The Saints fell to the Warriors 4-3 for their third straight loss. Aquinas is now 1-3 on the season and 0-2 in WHAC play.

The Saints jumped out to an early lead just 2:53 into the game when Russell Shengullete lit the lamp for his first goal of the year. Will Kortz and Kyle Truax assisted on the play. Just four minutes later, the Saints doubled the lead to 2-0 with a power-play goal by Tom Davis. Connor Barta and Brandon Rozema had the helpers on Davis' first of the year. The Warriors cut the lead in half late in the first with a power-play goal of their own.

Just 22 seconds into the second period the Warriors tied things up with an even strength goal by Filip Schultz. Despite outshooting their hosts 11-9 in the period, the second was all Warriors, as they would score their second goal of the period and third unanswered with just 37 seconds left.

Down 3-2, the Saints got an equalizer of their own less than two minutes into the third, as Rozema found the back of the net with an even strength goal from Alex Klekotka and Ryan Wolfe. Unfortunately for the Saints, Indiana Tech scored exactly ten minutes later to take a 4-3 lead with under nine minutes to play. The goal by Joel Holmberg would prove to be the game winner, as the Warriors held on for the 4-3 win.

Both teams went 1-5 on the power-play on the night. Aquinas outshot the WArriors 32-25 and had seven penalties for 14 minutes to the Warriors' six for 12.

Nick Ottenbacher made 21 saves in net for the Saints.
