The men's hockey team dropped a pair of WHAC contests to UM-Dearborn this weekend. The losses drop the Saints' record to 0-4 in WHAC play and 2-6 overall.
On Friday night the Saints traveled to Dearborn to take on the Wolverines and came away on the wrong side of a 6-1 decision. Dearborn jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of action and grew the lead to 3-0 before the Saints got on the board.
Nick Long lit the lamp for Aquinas at 15:34 in the second to cut the lead to 3-1.
Kyle Truax and Alex Kletkotka assisted on the play. Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Saints would come, as UM-Dearborn rattled off three more goals to finish the game and win 6-1. The Saints outshot the Wolverines 37-35 on the day and goaltender
Roman Malkov made 29 saves in net for AQ.
The next day the teams headed to Southside Ice Arena for the second game of the weekend home-and-home. The Saints got off to a hot start, with
Nick Long once again finding the back of the net, this time giving the Saints a 1-0 lead at 5:19. The Wolverines would counter and counter in a big way, scoring the next six goals of the game, including three on the power play. The Saints got a pair of goals back in the third period, with Arthur Pruhitsky and
Brandon Rozema getting on the scoreboard. Pruhitsky's goal, his first as a Saint, was assisted by
Augustus Hickle and
Steven Nisbet.
Kyle Truax and
Trent Kulczyk had the helpers on Rozema's goal, his team-leading fifth of the season. Both teams finished with 37 shots on goal for the day.
Nick Ottenbacher made 30 stops in net for the Saints.
Aquinas will look to get back on track this weekend when they play Lawrence Tech in a pair of WHAC contests on Friday and Saturday.
