Box Score The women's hockey team picked up its third win of the year and ended a three game skid with a big 3-0 win over crosstown rivals Davenport University at Patterson Ice Arena tonight. The win improves the Saints' record to 3-7 on the year and 1-3 in CCWHA action.Â
The two teams played a scoreless first-period, and in fact it took nearly half the game for one of the teams to break through and gain the advantage on the scoreboard. After killing off a first period power-play and another to start the second-period, the Saints went on the offensive midway through the second to take a 1-0 lead. Freshman
Madison Morgrette netted her first career Saints' goal at the 10:47 mark to give the Saints the advantage and the momentum. Aquinas would follow that up at the 6:15 mark in the period with an
Ashley Reese goal, her second of the season. The scoring barrage continued late in the period, with
Natalie Vaitas scoring with just 1:12 left in the second to give the Saints a 3-0. Vaitas' sixth goal of the season was the third for the Saints in just over nine minutes of action, stunning the Panthers and giving the Saints a lead they would never come close to relinquishing.
Another killed penalty by the Saints to start the third kept the momentum going and AQ used it to close out the Panthers and earn the victory. The shutout was the second of the year for goaltender
Ally Kennedy, who was once again stellar in goal for the Saints.
Aquinas will enjoy a day off on Saturday and then travel to East Lansing to take on Michigan State at 1:50 Sunday afternoon.Â
