Saints Defeat Cleary, 6-0, On Senior Day Ahead of WHAC Tournament

Team Will Face Concordia on Wednesday

The Saints women's soccer team concluded the regular season with a 6-0 win against Cleary on Senior Day Saturday. The team will be the #2 seed in the WHAC Championships beginning next week.
 
AQ had an opportunity at the beginning of the game but a shot hit the crossbar. It wouldn't take long for AQ to score as Filippa Struxsjo got around a defender and gave the Saints a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute with an assist from Danni McKenzie. Jenna Smith nearly scored a second Saints goal in the 18th minute but hit the crossbar.
 
Aquinas would get on the board again in the 30th minute when Macy Hollingsworth shot the ball past the goalkeeper and the Saints had a 2-0 lead. Jenna Smith had an assist on the second goal along with a helper from Hannah Crum. Katelyn Kahael would score three minutes after that in the 33rd minute on an accurate pass from Hannah Bowling to put Aquinas up 3-0. Six minutes later, Kahael scored her second game of the game to make it 4-0 going into the half.
 
In the second half, Crum had a chance in the 55th minute but pulled the shot wide. Crum took a corner kick in the 61st minute that deflected off of the goalkeeper into the net for an own goal and the Saints led 5-0. Cleary had its best chance of the game in the 67th minute but goalkeeper Taryn Webb made a diving save to preserve the clean sheet. Megan Harrington scored her first ever AQ goal in the 85th minute on a drive from outside the box to cap off a 6-0 win.
 
AQ dominated in shots and shots on goal with a 32-4 advantage in total shots and a 18-2 edge in shots on goal. Aquinas took eight corner kicks while not allowing the Cougars to have any corner kicks. 
 
Smith led the team in shots with five with two on target. Three Saints had four shots including Struxsjo (two on goal), McKenzie and Kahael (four on goal) while two players took three shots including Hollingsworth (two on goal) and Raegan Radaz (two on goal).
 
All three Saints Goalkeepers played in the game. Braeleigh McCoy made a save in the first half while Maddi Vick and Webb played in the second half.
 
The Saints will look to defend its WHAC Championship as the #2 seed in the WHAC Quarterfinals where they will host #7-seed Concordia at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, November 6th at the AQ Athletic Field.
