The men's soccer team traveled to Ft. Wayne, Indiana this morning to open WHAC play against the Warriors of Indiana Tech. The Saints came out on the wrong end of a 7-2 scoreline, and are now 1-4-3 on the season.
The Warriors took control of the game early, scoring in the 4th minute to take a 1-0 lead and then scoring again less than a minute later to double the lead. Aquinas climbed back into the match with a goal by
Bailey Whalley in the 13th minute to cut the lead to 2-1. Whalley's seventh goal of the season was his third this year from the penalty spot.
Aquinas found the equalizer a little over 13 minutes later when
Fin Pittock found the back of the net for the first time this season. Pittock headed home a cross into the box from
Franco Calabrese, who assisted on the play. However, the Warriors would regain their two-goal advantage late in the first-half, scoring twice in a one minute span to take a 4-2 lead into the break.
The Warriors controlled the second-half of play with the lead, outshooting the Saints 12-3 in the final 45 minutes and tacking on three more goals for the 7-2 final. Two Warrior goals in the second half came from the penalty spot. On the day, the Warriors outshot the Saints 20-11 and earned 11 corner-kicks to the Saints' two.
Antonio Strassioto made seven saves in net for AQ. The Saints return to action next Wednesday when they host cross-town rivals Cornerstone at 7:00 pm.
