Women's Hockey Falls to Wolverines 5-1

Box Score The women's hockey team traveled to the eastside of the state this afternoon for a tilt with the Wolverines of UM-Dearborn. The Saints came up on the wrong end of a 5-1 scoreline, dropping their record to 3-12 on the season.

The Saints played the Wolverines tough throughout the first period, keeping their hosts scoreless until the final minute of the opening stanza. The Wolverines took a 1-0 lead into intermission, and increased it to 3-0 after two periods of play with a pair of second-period goals.

Aquinas cut the lead to 3-1 with a goal just 33 seconds into the third period, with Madison Morgrette scoring for the third-straight game. Morgrette's fifth goal of the season was assisted by Natalie Vaitas and Avery Martin. The host Wolverines would pull away late with a pair of third-period goals to make the final score 5-1.

The Saints held UMD to just 1-4 on power-plays on the afternoon, but were unable to convert on either of their extra-man attempts. Ally Kennedy made 61 saves in net for the Saints, who return to action next weekend against Northern Michigan University in the Traverse City Showcase.
