Box Score The women's hockey team took on the University of Michigan last night in Ann Arbor , coming up just short in their comeback bid and falling by a 3-2 final. The third straight loss for the Saints drops their season record to 6-19.
The Saints held the Wolverines off the scoreboard for the first 32 minutes of the game before the Wolverines took a 1-0 lead midway through the second-period. The Wolverines would hold onto that slim lead heading into the third period. It would take nearly another 15 minutes of action for another goal to be scored, but the last five minutes of the game were action packed on both sides.Â
The Wolverines scored twice in a two minute span to take a 3-0 lead with just 4:35 left in the game. However, the Saints would not go down without a fight.
Morgan Kozar got the Saints on the board with a powerplay goal with just 2:02 remaining, assisted by
Ashley Reese. The Saints closed the gap to just 3-2 after
Natalie Vaitas scored with just :35 seconds remaining. Kozar had the assist on the play. The Saints battled to find the equalizer with the seconds winding down, but were unable to send the game to overtime.
Aquinas was outshot 51-23 on the day.
Ally Kennedy made 48 saves for the Saints to keep them in the contest. The Saints and Wolverines tangle again on Sunday, this time at Southside for Senior Day for Saints' seniors
