Saints Men Close Season With 86-71 Loss at Indiana Tech

The Aquinas men's basketball team went 11-for-19 from three-point range and won the rebounding battle, but the Saints fell in the regular season finale on Saturday (Feb. 22) in Fort Wayne. Indiana Tech ended AQ's campaign in an 86-71 final on the strength of a big first half in which the Saints were outscored 47-31. 
 
Aquinas closes the 2019-20 season with a 10-20 record and a 6-14 WHAC record, while Indiana Tech enters the conference tournament with a 20-10 overall mark and a 16-4 league tally. 
 
Individual and team statistics may have been slightly inaccurate from Saturday's game.
 
Indiana Tech shot 45.1 percent from the field and 8-of-19 from three-point range, while AQ was actually better (11-for-19) from downtown; AQ shot 41.0 percent from the floor. The Saints also won the rebounding battle 43-37, but committed 17 turnovers against the Warriors' seven miscues.
 
Davion Benton posted a game-high 22 points, making 9-of-15 field goals and 4-of-6 free throws. He added seven rebounds, three assists, and three blocked shots. Jesse Hillis added 20 points and made 5-of-7 three-pointers, while shooting 7-of-11 from the field overall. 
 
Truman Hillis went a perfect 3-for-3 from three-point range for nine points, while DeShawn Lewis added nine points and five rebounds. Deric Murray recorded a game-high 11 rebounds and Sammie Ryans scored six points. 
 
Indiana Tech led 31-26 with 4:53 remaining in the first half, while the Warriors put together a game-changing 16-5 run to open a 47-31 advantage at halftime. Aquinas was unable to pull within single digits in the second half, falling to the Warriors to close out the season.
