#10 AQ Sweeps Indiana Tech in WHAC Victory

Moothart and Boothroyd total 25 kills in the win

The Aquinas men's volleyball team earned a quick 3-0 road sweep in Fort Wayne on Saturday night (Feb. 22), as the #10 Saints defeated Indiana Tech in straight sets. AQ took care of the Warriors by scores of 25-19, 25-21, and 26-24 to earn the conference victory.
 
With the win, the Saints move to 12-5 overall and 4-1 in WHAC play, while Indiana Tech drops to 6-13 on the season and 1-4 in league action. 
 
Aquinas held a slight 38-32 lead in kills, but the Saints were far more efficient offensively than the Warriors. AQ hit .250 with only 15 errors, while Indiana Tech committed 25 errors and hit just .070 in the loss. The Saints doubled Indiana Tech in blocks (12-6) and held advantages in assists (36-32) and digs (39-35), while the Warriors were on top in aces, 4-1.
 
Zane Moothart put together a 17-dig, 13-kill double-double, hit .346 and recorded four block assists, while Joshua Boothroyd delivered 12 kills and connected at a .375 hitting percentage. He added four total blocks, with one solo rejection.
 
Ruben Lopez totaled eight kills, four digs, and two blocks, while Matthew Glass provided eight total blocks (one solo) and three kills. Robert Valerio added eight digs, three blocks, and two kills. Colby Elder dished out 33 assists in the win.
 
There were 16 tie scores and five lead changes on Saturday, with AQ rallying in both the second and third sets to earn the sweep. Aquinas trailed 17-15 in the second set, but scored five straight points en route to a 10-4 run to close the frame with the 25-21 victory.
 
Indiana Tech went in front 18-11 in the third set, but Aquinas never wavered. The Saints rallied and used a 10-3 run to tie the score at 21-all. At that point, Indiana Tech connected on back-to-back points, but AQ scored five of the final six points to clinch the sweep.

Aquinas is back at home on Wednesday (Feb. 26) at 7:00 p.m. against Siena Heights in WHAC action.
