The Aquinas women's volleyball team traveled to Whiting, Indiana on Saturday (Jan. 30th) where the Saints played Governors State and Calumet St. Joseph. After a pair of 3-0 sweeps, Aquinas advances to 3-0 overall, and 1-0 in conference play.
AQ played Governors State in the first match of its road trip and beat the Jaguars in three straight sets by scores of 25-19, 25-15, and 25-6.
Aquinas outperformed Governors State offensively as the Saints hit .507 as a team to that of only .120 for the Jaguars. Aquinas also tallied four and a half team blocks, ten service aces, and 29 digs. Governors State only recorded one team block and had 18 team digs.
Kylie Christensen had a match-high 13 kills on only 14 attempts, hitting .929 and recording her 1,000th career kill. Christensen is only the 10th Saint in Aquinas history to surpass the 1,000 mark since 1998 and the first since outside hitter Kristin Danielson in 2018. Christensen also added two blocks in the match for the Saints.
Jackie Rozell also had a huge impact on the Saints offensive play as she notched 11 kills on 15 attempts to hit .667 for AQ. Rozell also added six digs and two blocks.
Payton Klein had five kills and five digs for the Saints and added two blocks.
Kali Crawford recorded 33 assists in the match against Governors State, and also had four kills and three digs for Aquinas. Sam Vanhouten and
Meredith Kraus each had five digs for the Saints and Kraus added three kills.
The Saints also competed against Calumet St. Joseph where they swept the Crimson Tide three sets to none by scores of 25-10, 25-19, and 25-14.
AQ hit .364 in the second match to Calumet's .000 percentage. Aquinas recorded 41 kills to that of only 15 for the Crimson Tide. The Saints also had 11 team service aces and 39 digs. Calumet recorded only four service aces and 23 digs as a team.
Rozell led the Saints with a match-high eight kills. Rozell also recorded three service aces and had four digs.
Kenzi Dobosiewicz notched six kills on 11 attempts hitting .455 and added ten digs. Klein had seven kills and hit .636 for AQ.
Emily Jones recorded six kills for the Saints and had a .364 hitting percentage.
Christensen added five more kills to her total kill count and had a solo block in the match.
Adrien Yondo recorded nine digs and had two service aces for the Saints.
Ally Blackford added four kills and had three total digs.
Aquinas returns home Tuesday (Feb. 2nd) to face crosstown rival Cornerstone in a big WHAC matchup starting at 5:00 p.m. in the Sturrus Center.
