The #12 Aquinas women's soccer team went to work early and often to gain the victory over UM-Dearborn on Wednesday evening (Oct. 20). The Saints scored four goals in both halves in the 8-0 win at the AQ Athletic Field and now sit in sole possession of first place in the WHAC standings.
Aquinas' overall record improves to 13-1-1 on the season with a 7-0-1 WHAC record, while UM-Dearborn's record drops to 1-7-1 overall and 0-6-1 in the WHAC.
It did not take long to get
Hannah Crum going against the Wolverines by scoring her 11th and 12th goals on the season in the fifth and eighth minutes, respectively. The first goal came after Crum forced a turnover deep in the offensive zone and scored right outside the goalkeeper box and the second came on a rebound off an
America Lemus saved shot.
Sydney Shenk scored her first of two on the night in the 18th minute with
Merin McDermott collecting the helper and then
Katelyn Kahael scored 16 seconds before the half ended with the assist going to
Marie-Louise Abild.
McDermott got involved in the scoring parade in the 50th minute of the second half after converting her eighth goal of the season off a Crum corner kick. Kahael also netted two goals in the game with her fourth of the season coming in the 54th minute off an
Ariana Garcia saved shot. Scoring her first goal of the season,
Hannah Bowling jumped in on the action by scoring on a Shenk through ball. Shenk then netted her 12th goal of the season for the final goal of the game in the 88th minute with
Brittney Carter garnering the assist.
Tairyn Webb (9-1-0) gained another win in net with Liz Bays also seeing time, but neither had to make a save. Amber Festian collected nine saves in the loss for the Wolverines after allowing eight goals.
The Saints took 32 total shots with 17 being on net and the AQ defense did not allow the Wolverines to get off a single shot. AQ had eight attempts at a corner kick and also did not give UMD an opportunity to try one, while Aquinas committed three fouls to UM-Dearborn's eight.
Prior to the game,
Hannah Crum was honored with a #50 jersey after scoring her 50th career goal against UNOH this past Saturday. Crum currently holds to all-time records for goals (52), assists (32), and points (135) for AQ women's soccer.
Aquinas will continue WHAC play on the road by traveling to Madonna, who is receiving votes in the top-25 poll, in Livonia, Michigan on Saturday (Oct. 22), with kick-off scheduled for 11:00 AM.
