The AQ women's volleyball team played host to Siena Heights tonight (Nov. 10) in the opening round of the WHAC tournament. The first set started off rough for AQ as Siena Heights was able to muster up an early lead and hold onto it throughout the entirety of the first set. Siena Heights took an early 1-0 match lead with a 25-19 set. The second set played similar to the first as errors plagued the Saints in the second set. Siena Heights held a 23-18 lead before the Saints managed to rally back to a 23-22 score behind
Jennifer Johnson's serving. However, Siena Heights managed to close out the second set with two points to pick up a 25-22 win.
The Saints were unable to get the momentum going in the third set, as Siena Heights won 25-15, giving the Siena Heights Saints a 3-0 WHAC quarterfinal victory.
Siena Heights beat out Aquinas in all statistical categories, leading in kills (38-28), hitting percentage (.273-.145), assists (37-25), service aces (10-4), digs (33-26), and blocks (6-5).
Samee Teachworth led the team in kills tonight with eight (.357), setting a career high in kills for the sophomore. Teachworth added a block assist to the stat column as well.
Chloe Mitchell was the team leader in assists with 22 over three sets. She also contributed a kill and two digs.
Kenzi Dobosiewicz and
Adrien Yondo were the team leaders in digs with six each. Dobosiewicz also had a kill in tonight's effort and Yondo had an ace.
Siena Heights will advance in the WHAC tournament and play Madonna on Friday (Nov. 12). AQ's season ends with a 22-14 record.
