Aquinas Drops Series Against Indiana Tech After Another Third Period Rally

The Warriors score three in the third again to pick up another win against AQ

#15 men's hockey took on #10 Indiana Tech for the second game of the series tonight (Nov. 13). The game started similarly to last night, with AQ taking an early 1-0 off of a Nick Stockert goal just 6:33 into the first period. The goal was assisted by Christian Look and Danny Barry. That was the end of the good news for the Saints in the first period, as AQ managed just one more shot throughout the rest of the first period. Thomas Davis received a ten-minute major ten minutes into the first period, resulting in a powerplay opportunity for IT. The Warriors would go on to capitalize, leveling the score at 1-1.

Just three minutes into the second period, Dylan Rumpke served two minutes in the penalty box for a high sticking call. This powerplay chance for Indiana Tech resulted in another goal, bringing the score to 2-1 in favor of the Warriors. IT would go on to score another at the end of the second, to bring the score to 3-1.

With a two-goal deficit heading into the third period, the Saints desperately needed a goal to stay in the game. Barry delivered on that need with fifteen minutes left to play in the game. The goal was assisted by Alex Klekotka and Russell Shengulette, making the score 3-2.

However, Aquinas was not quite able to complete the comeback, as Indiana Tech went on to score five minutes later, making the score 4-2 with ten minutes to play. The scoring for the Warriors would not end there, as IT scored two more goals before everything was said and done. The final score of the game was 6-2 in favor of Indiana Tech.

After dropping both games in the series, Aquinas now sits at 8-4 on the season with a WHAC record of 7-3.

Tyler Szturm started in net for the Saints, saving 31 of 37 shots for a 83.8% save percentage. AQ was outshot by IT by a total of 37-24.

AQ is back on the ice this upcoming Wednesday (Nov. 17) with a road match against fellow Grand Rapids school, Calvin University.
