Daz'Sha Day Sets New Program Record for Three Pointers Made in Win Over Goshen

Day'Sha Day makes eight threes, breaking the previous record set by Kris Snider at seven

The Aquinas women's basketball team extended its winning streak to four games in a row against Goshen on Tuesday night (Nov. 16) in Sturrus Center. Daz'Sha Day sets a program record with eight three-pointers made in a game, breaking the previous record set by Kris Snider who made seven on Nov. 28, 1992. The 29 year record fell as Day also scored a career-high 28 points in the 64-53 win over the Maple Leafs.

Aquinas' overall record improves to 5-2 on the season, while Goshen's, an NAIA school out of the Crossroads League, record falls to 3-4 so far this season.

The Saints came out on fire from behind the arc as, hitting on their first four three-pointers before Goshen could score a basket. Another three with 36 second left in the quarter extended the lead up to 11 before a GC basket cut the lead to nine heading into the second quarter. The hot shooting continued for AQ as its lead ballooned up to 17 in the middle of the second stanza. After shooting 50% from the floor, including 7-11 from downtown, the Saints took a 34-20 lead into halftime.

The Aquinas lead never dipped below double-digits in the third quarter as all four baskets that were made were from behind the arc. Goshen turned up the defensive intensity in the fourth quarter to try and mount a comeback. The Saints got their biggest lead up to 18 with 7:44 remaining in the game and then the Maple Leafs started chipping away. GC cut the lead down to 10 with 5:31 remaining, but it did not get any lower than that as Day hit her record breaking three with 18 second left on the clock to give Aquinas the 11-point victory.

Aquinas finished the game with a 46% field goal percentage after making 23-50 attempts. Over half of those field goals came from downtown as the Saints shot 12-21 from behind the arc and 6-14 from the free throw stripe. AQ held its opponent to under 30% from the field for the third time this season as Goshen went 23-79 for a 29.1% shooting percentage. The Maple Leafs made 5-25 from the three-point line and went 2-3 from the charity stripe

To go along with her record breaking eight three pointers and career-high 28 points, Day also had seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal. Marissa Brady was the only other Saint with double-digit points at 10, but also tied her career-high with nine blocked shots and grabbed seven boards as well. Brighton Miller and Eliza Brown were the main distributors with four assists a piece, while Jordyn Wigg led the way with three steals.

Goshen outrebounded Aquinas 48-36 and also had 10 steals to AQ's six. Aquinas had more assists (18-8) and blocks (10-1), while creating 12 turnovers and giving up possession 15 times themselves. The Maple Leafs also led the Saints in second chance points (22-8), bench points (20-8), and points in the paint (30-14), while AQ had a 14-8 advantage in points off turnovers.

Aquinas will return to WHAC play tomorrow by traveling to Livonia, Michigan to take on Madonna, with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 PM.
