Rough Night for Rochester as Saints Net Ten Goals in Huge Win

Saints pick up huge 10-0 win as Saints cannot be slowed down.

The AQ men's hockey team traveled to Big Boy Arena in Frasier, Michigan last night (Nov. 5) to take on the Rochester University Warriors. David Elford opened up the scoring for Aquinas at 11:56 in the first period, with the assist coming from senior Greg McQuade. Aquinas scored again just 29 seconds later with the goal coming from Russell Shengulette, assisted by Daniel Nelson. This was just the start of a very long period for Rochester, as Aquinas would add three more goals by the end of the period. Mike Curran added another goal to his seasonal resume, now leading the team with five goals. The third goal of the match was assisted by Nick Stockert.

Danny Barry proceeded to tie Mike Curran for a team-leading fifth goal of the season, scoring at 7:17 in the first period. That goal was assisted by sophomore defender, Luke Richesin, and freshman forward, Shane DiTullio. Nelson scored the fifth and final goal for the Saints in the first period, assisted by Elford and McQuade. The Saints outshot the Warriors 31-5 in the first period, with two periods still to play.

The second period did not have nearly as much scoring, despite outshooting Rochester 23-5 in the period. Stockert netted his third goal of the season with 9:51 left to play in the period. Assisting the goal was Shengulette and Curran.

Aquinas blew the doors open again in the third period, scoring four more goals once everything was all said and done. Darren Johnson kicked the scoring off for the Saints, scoring with 13:22 remaining in the third. The goal was assisted by the Richesin and DiTullio combination again. Mike Curran netted his sixth goal of the season just a couple minutes later, assisted by Mason Stewart and Stockert.
Rochester had some disqualifications with eight minutes to go in the game. Two players were disqualified for fighting, with one player receiving three disqualifications for continued fighting. AQ would take advantage, with Greg McQuade scoring an unassisted goal late in the period. Alex Klekotka would score the tenth and final goal for the Saints less than a minute later, assisted by Stewart and Shengulette.

The 10-0 result puts Aquinas at 7-2 on the season with a 6-1 conference record. Aquinas outshot Rochester by a total of 81-12, with Max Johnston picking up a shutout victory.

Rochester had to cancel tonight's game (Nov. 6) due to a lack of eligible players. So, Aquinas will be back on the ice next Friday (Nov. 12) at 8:00 PM to take on #12 Indiana Tech.
