#12 Aquinas Set to Compete in Fourth Straight WHAC Tournament Championship

Aquinas scored four consecutive goals after Siena Heights scored the first of the game in the 4-1 win to clinch a title game berth

The #12 Aquinas women's soccer team, the #1 seed in the WHAC Tournament, defeated the #4 seed Siena Heights on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 6), at the AQ Athletic Field. AQ will play in the WHAC Tournament Championship for the fourth straight season following the 4-1 win over SHU.

Aquinas now has a record of 18-1-1 on the season, which ties the program all-time record for most wins in a season after the 2019 squad finished with 18 wins. Siena Heights ends its season with a 13-5-2 record following the loss.

All five goals scored in the game were in the offensive minded first half as Siena Heights kicked things off in the second minute. Emily Broman was able to capitalize on a mistake by the Aquinas defense to score the unassisted goal. After SHU took the 1-0 lead, AQ proceeded to rattle off four straight goals before the first 45 minutes were up. In the 18th minute, Hannah Crum scored her team leading 14th goal of the season off a feed from Katelyn Kahael. Crum turned around and assisted on the game winning goal in the 25th minute, setting up Macy Hollingsworth for her seventh goal of the season. The third AQ goal was scored in the 37th minute as Laia Cunill buried her seventh goal of the season on a cross into the box by Jenna Konwerski. The final goal came in the 42nd minute as Brittney Carter finished a through ball by Emma Gould for her second goal of the season.

The second half was very defensive driven as Aquinas switched from a three-man back line to a four-man back line to add the extra defender. That slowed the pace down quite a bit as Siena Heights was only able to muster two total shots after the switch. The 4-1 lead turned into the eighth straight victory after the final whistle was blown.

Tairyn Webb (14-1-0) grabbed her 11th straight win between the pipes with the lone save coming from a penalty kick from Siena Heights in the second half. Kara Bishop made five saves in the loss for SHU after giving up four goals.

Aquinas took 16 total shots with 10 being on net as Siena Heights ended with seven total shots and two on frame. AQ attempted nine corner kicks compared to SHU's one, while both teams committed 11 fouls a piece.

Aquinas will next host UNOH in the WHAC Tournament Championship on Saturday (Nov. 13) at the AQ Athletic Field, with kick-off scheduled for 2:00 PM.
