The Aquinas women's basketball team traveled to Adrian, Michigan to take on Siena Heights in another battle of the Saints on Thursday night (Feb. 25) for the start of the WHAC Tournament. #6 seeded Aquinas was unable to grab the win from #3 seeded Siena Heights, falling by a score of 59-38.
The visiting Saints started the WHAC quarterfinals by scoring the first bucket of the game. Siena Heights quickly matched that basket, and outscored AQ by a 15-5 margin in the first quarter.Â
Siena Heights led Aquinas the rest of the ball game. Despite AQ outscoring the home Saints by a 17-11 margin in the fourth, Siena Heights ended AQ's season and advances to the WHAC semifinal game. The win improves Siena Heights to 13-5, 9-4 WHAC. Aquinas ends the year with a 6-8 overall record and a 6-7 mark in conference play.Â
Aquinas went 15-53 from the floor in tonight's contest, shooting a 28.3% team percentage. Siena Heights shot 37%, hitting 20-54 as a team from the floor. The home Saints notched a rebound advantage of 43-34, helping SHU to 10 second chance points.
Marissa Brady led AQ with 11 points and four rebounds. Brady was 3-3 at the charity stripe and recorded four blocks and two steals. Senior Jaylynn Williams finished her career with a seven-point total, shooting 3-5 from the field.
Daz'Sha Day posted four points, while Brionne Crews tallied eight rebounds and three blocks for Aquinas. Jordyn Wigg notched two points, two rebounds, and an assist.Â
Siena Heights took advantage of Aquinas totaling 17 turnovers, as the home Saints finished with 18 points off turnovers. SHU led AQ in assists (15-5) while the visiting Saints grabbed the advantage over Siena Heights in blocks (7-4) and steals (8-6).
Williams is AQ's only senior and Aquinas will return the rest of the roster, looking to get back to a winning season in the 2021-22 campaign.
