The Aquinas women's basketball team traveled to Lima, Ohio on Sunday (Feb. 7) to take on the Racers of UNOH in a big WHAC contest. The Saints prevailed after a strong fourth-quarter performance grabbing the win (54-40). AQ advances to 2-3 overall and 2-3 in conference play.
After the first three quarters, the Saints trailed by a score of 34-31 heading into the fourth. After UNOH scored the first bucket of the quarter, Aquinas went on a 23-4 scoring run clinching the win. Sophomore
Brighton Miller was responsible for 10 of those fourth-quarter points and
JaKarri Alven for seven points. The loss moves UNOH to 5-6 overall and 2-6 in the WHAC.
AQ led UNOH in field goal percentage shooting 35.7% as it held the Racers to 26.2% from the field. The Saints shot 11-13 from the free throw line. Aquinas outperformed the Racers defensively totaling seven team blocks to just one for UNOH. AQ edged out UNOH in rebounds (44-42) and steals (10-9). Each team tallied 10 assists.
The Saints were led by Miller, who finished with a game-high and her season-high 18 points, shooting 7-16 from the field.
Marissa Brady kept her streak alive notching her fifth double-double in five games, totaling 15 points and 18 rebounds. Brady also added five blocks and three steals.
Sophomore
JaKarri Alven posted 12 points for AQ and tallied five rebounds and had a pair of assists. Miller, Brady, and Alven accounted for 45 of AQ's 54-point total.
Eliza Brown recorded four points and
Daz'Sha Day added three points and two rebounds.
Jayda Smith finished with four rebounds and had a pair of assists for the Saints.
Aquinas is back in action again tomorrow (Feb. 8) as the Saints host #11 Indiana Tech in a huge WHAC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 PM in the Sturrus Center.
