The Aquinas women's volleyball team traveled to Southfield, Michigan to face Lawrence Tech in another WHAC showdown on Saturday afternoon (Mar. 13). AQ dominated the Blue Devils totaling 42 kills in three sets to earn the Saints the sweep by scores of 25-23, 25-16, and 25-20.
The victory advances the Saints winning streak to 15 and improves their record to 18-1 overall, 11-1 WHAC. The loss drops Lawrence Tech to a 5-8 overall record and are 5-8 in conference play.
The Blue Devils led in the first set by a 23-19 score before the Saints went on a 6-0 scoring run to close out the 25-23 game. It was the Saints the rest of the way as AQ hit .278 as a team to the Blue Devils' .149 percentage.
AQ led LTU in kills (42-33), digs (59-52), and blocks (5-1). Aquinas also dished out 36 assists on the day and had an impressive service aces total of 10.
The Saints were led by Payton Klein who totaled a match-high 11 kills on no errors, for a .611 hitting percentage. Klein also tallied seven digs, four total blocks, and a pair of service aces. Kali Crawford dished out 31 assists in three sets and finished with 14 digs and three aces.
Adrien Yondo posted 17 digs for the Saints while Emily Jones totaled eight kills on only one error. Samee Teachworth tallied four kills and four total blocks. Jackie Rozell finished with nine kills and nine digs for AQ. Kylie Christensen added six kills and Jenna Berens tallied four service aces.
Aquinas is back in action on Tuesday (Mar. 16) as the Saints travel to rematch their only loss of the year in a huge WHAC contest against crosstown rival Cornerstone. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 PM against the Golden Eagles.
