Saints Women Drop Two Over Weekend to Adrian

The Aquinas women's hockey team faced Adrian on Friday night (Mar. 20) and Saturday evening (Mar. 21) to close out the season. The Saints were unable to contain the very strong Adrian offense and fell in both games by scores of 10-0 and 9-2.

The Saints couldn't hold the puck as the Adrian defense was very disruptive and fast. AQ only was able to tally two shots on goal, both in the first period. Adrian got out to a hot start netting three goals. To start the second period, the Bulldogs scored within the first three minutes and didn't stop as they continued to score four more in the period. Adrian headed into the locker room with the 8-0 advantage.

Ally Kennedy was in goal for the Saints in the first two periods posting an impressive 40 saves. AQ made a goalie change after the second as they put Kadynce Romijn in for the third. Romijn allowed just two goals and finished with 18 saves.

In the second game on Saturday, the Bulldogs' offense remained full of energy as they scored the first two goals of the game. AQ responded netting a goal of their own by senior Amelia Bartels (assisted by Jenna Blackwell and Alexandra Drevline). Adrian netted two more to finish the first period with the 4-1 edge.

The Saints and the Bulldogs played a competitive and tight second period as Adrian was held to two goals by Aquinas. Adrian still held a 6-1 lead going into the third. Despite the Saints netting a short-handed goal in the third by Olivia Menard (unassisted), AQ couldn't cut into the Adrian advantage. Aquinas dropped by a score of 9-2.

Aquinas goalkeeper Kennedy finished with a remarkable 70 saves in the contest. Adrian snapped the Saints undefeated record and nine game win streak. AQ finishes the season with an excellent 10-2-1 overall record.
