The Aquinas men's volleyball team traveled to Siena Heights for the battle of the Saints in Adrian, Michigan on Tuesday night (Mar. 23). Despite playing a strong and tight first set, Aquinas fell in three by scores of 26-24, 25-18, and 25-19.
The visiting Saints battled with the home team of Siena Heights in the first set as Aquinas found themselves with the skinny 24-23 lead. Three straight kills by Siena Heights earned them the win 26-24.
The next two sets, Siena Heights was able to go on little runs to distance themselves from AQ to earn the victory. The loss drops Aquinas to a 4-11 overall record, 3-8 WHAC. The win improves SHU to 10-5 overall, 6-4 in conference play.
Aquinas was led by Julian Armendano who totaled 15 kills and four digs, hitting .250. Daniel Littleton posted eight kills, a service ace, and a block assist. Matthew Richmond finished with 32 assists and seven digs for AQ.
Gavin Jonker tallied five kills with one error hitting .400 and added four service aces. Kelsey Yogi totaled 10 digs for the visiting Saints while Sean Kelley added six. Robert Valerio finished with four kills and three digs.
Siena Heights led in kills (43-39) and blocks (7-2). Aquinas also was edged out in digs (33-35) and assists (36-39). Each team tallied five service aces.
Aquinas is back in action this Saturday (Mar. 27) as AQ hosts Lourdes in the last regular season game. The huge WHAC matchup against the Gray Wolves is scheduled for 1:00 PM inside the Sturrus Center.
