The Aquinas women's lacrosse team had its two-game winning streak snapped by a tough Concordia team on Saturday (Mar. 27), as the #8 Cardinals defeated the Saints at the AQ Athletic Field, 16-3. Saturday's loss dips Aquinas to 2-2 on the season and 1-1 in WHAC play, while the top-10 Cardinals are now 3-1 on the season and 2-0 in league action.
Concordia was too much for the short-handed Saints, as the Cardinals scored the game's first six goals and led 10-1 at halftime. CUAA held a 40-8 advantage in shots and won 18 of the 21 draw controls. AQ committed 21 turnovers and forced 14 Cardinals miscues.
The Saints' lone first half goal came from Kennadie Minnerich, assisted by
Naomi Plant. In the second half, Plant found
Megan Moffat for a goal and AQ scored again six minutes later when
Lauren Hansen netted a goal off a feed from
Alexis Villarini.
Hansen took a team-high four shots, three of them on goal. Villarini picked up five ground balls and
Carli Taylor added four ground balls.
Azariah Wells made 14 saves in goal for AQ.
The Saints look to bounce back on Wednesday (Mar. 31) against Cleary. Aquinas hosts the Cougars at the AQ Athletic Field at 7:00 p.m.
