The Aquinas women's tennis team was defeated by Indiana Wesleyan and Olivet Nazarene at the IWU Tournament on Saturday afternoon (Feb. 18). The Saints first played host Indiana Wesleyan at the Stutter Tennis Courts and were beaten by a score of 5-0 before facing ONU at Marion High School as their fall record dropped to 0-2 after being defeated 4-1.
Against the Wildcats, the Saints doubles teams of
Sofia Gomez and
Joska Volder and also
Jenna Hausman and
Vanessa Heylmun dropped their doubles contests by the scores of 2-6 and 0-6.
IWU were able to get single wins over #3
Mimi Pecheco (1-6, 0-6), #4 Heylmun (0-6, 2-6), and #5 Hausman (0-6, 0-6) with #1 Gomez and #2 Volder not finishing before Indiana Wesleyan got the win.
Against the Tigers, the Saints doubles teams of Gomez and Volder and also Pecheco and Heylmun both won their doubles contests by the scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
AQ was upended in the #1, #4, and #5 singles matches as Gomez (1-6, 0-6), Heylmun (2-6, 1-6), and Hausman (0-6, 0-6) were defeated as #2 Volder and #3 Pecheco did not finish.
The Saints will next travel to Goshen, Indiana next Saturday (Sept. 25) to take on the Maple Leafs beginning at 12:00 PM.
