Byron Center, Mich. — The Aquinas women's hockey team is on the board. The Saints (1-2), and their new head coach
Chris Brassard, picked up their first win of the 2022-23 season by leaving no doubt in a 3-0 home victory over in-city rival Davenport (0-5). AQ scored in every period and outshot the winless Panthers 62-19 in the contest.
A two-on-one breakaway created the Saints' first goal less than three minutes into the game. Sophomore forward
Lauryn Wood slipped the pass over to junior forward
Jenna Blackwell for the opening goal. That started a trend of three first-time scorers this season all finding the back of the net on Friday night.
The next skater on the score sheet for AQ was junior
Anna Castle midway through the second period.
Kate Kramm was crediting with the assist.
Lastly, the third-period insurance goal was buried by freshman forward
Darbi Poole to collect her first career Aquinas' goal. Only fitting that the newcomer would be assisted by a veteran, senior defender
Morgan Kozar.
AQ junior goaltender
Kadynce Romijn stopped all 19 shots that went her way for the Saints first shutout win since Nov. 6, 2021, against Central Michigan.
Next up, Aquinas heads over to Davenport's home rink tomorrow (10/22) to wrap up the two-game set. Puck drop set for 9:30 p.m. from the Patterson Ice Center.
