#15 Saints Dispatch Cleary for 10th Straight Win

Aquinas stays perfect in conference play with two games left in regular season

Howell, Mich. — The Aquinas women's soccer team extended its win streak to double-digits with a 3-0 road win over Cleary on Saturday (Oct. 22). The No. 15-ranked Saints (13-2-1, 9-0 WHAC) were held scoreless in the first half, but rallied in the second half with three goals in the span of 10 minutes to win their 10th straight game.

Cleary tried its best to play spoiler on the Cougars' Senior Day, but eventually dropped to 3-10 overall (1-8 WHAC).

The Saints dominated the first 45 minutes despite not scoring. AQ outshot Cleary 19-0 but only five of the attempts were on target. Defensively, the Aquinas' back line prevented the Cougars from getting a shot off in the first half.

Cleary finished with two shots in total, neither of which were on target. Aquinas racked up 35 total shots (13 on target).

AQ goalkeepers Tairyn Webb and Kayla Shuk split time in the net with Webb taking the first half and Shuk finishing out the shutout in the second half.

Katelyn Kahael broke the deadlock in the 56th minute with Laia Cunill getting the assist. Two minutes later, Cleary scored an own goal to put the Saints up 2-0. Cunill then added one more assist on a Sydney Shenk goal in the 66th minute to cap the score at 3-0.

Shenk now leads the Saints with 19 points this season, while Cunill is the team leader in assists with eight.

Opposing teams have now scored four own goals while playing against the Saints this season.

AQ wraps up the regular season with two home more contests on Wednesday (Oct. 26) against Lawrence Tech and Saturday (Oct. 29) against Indiana Tech.
